Chem 11: Thurs Feb 27 - Mole Conversions!
Today we did it! We learned how to convert with moles. We started with some practice from last day: Pg. 80 # 6 & 7. Then we took some notes on converting moles and mass, with practice on pg. 82 #8-10. After break we did some J.o.W. and then we did some notes on converting moles and number of particles with practice on pg. 84 # 15b,d,g. Here is the mole song and the roundest object video.

Today you wrote the Unit 2: Naming Compounds test. After that, we did a quick intro to Unit 3: Moles with some notes on Relative Atomic Mass, and practice on pg. 80 #6 & 7.

Today we had some time to practice/catch-up with our work on Ionic Compounds. You worked on the assignment handed out last day. After that we took some notes on how to name Covalent Compounds.

Sci 9: Thurs Feb 20 - Chemical Bonding and Ionic Formulas
Today we took some notes on Chemical Bonding (similar to section 7.4 in the text), and then you had some practice pg. 223 #5-8,10,11,14,15,17. After break we did some J.o.W. and then worked through some work making Ionic Compound Formulas (please complete parts 1 and 2 if you didn't finish - we'll do part 3 tomorrow after our QQQ).

Sci 9: Tues Feb 18 - Chemical Symbols and Formulas
Today we worked on how to work with Chemical symbols and formulas. You read pgs. 234-236, we took some notes about how to read the numbers in chemical formulas, and then you had this worksheet to try as practice. Towards the end of class, we had a look at this video on the Deadliest Chemicals in the world!
Chem 11: Tues Feb 18 - Naming Hydrates
Today we learned how to Name "Hydrates;" we took some notes, looked at some examples of how water and ionic crystals interact and then you did practice on pg. 73 #6 & 7.

Sci 9: Thurs Feb 13 - Chemical Families and Periodic Crafts!
Today we had a look at the way the periodic table is organized to show different groups of elements. You read pgs. 248 - 252, we took some Notes on Chemical Families, and then there was some practice on pg. 254 #1,2,5,7. After break, you wrote QQQ #3, we did some J.o.W, and then we had a look at different ways to represent the periodic table. Then you got to Colour a Periodic Table and create a 3D periodic table for your own!

Chem 11: Wed Feb 12 - Ionic Names and Compounds + Electronegativities
Today we cranked through so many glorious notes! We had a look at how to name Ionic Compounds (practice pg. 72 #5), how to write Ionic Compound Formulas (practice pg. 71 #4), and how to compare Electronegativities to find Bond Type (practice worksheet).

Today we started Unit 2: Inorganic Compound Naming with some notes on Bonding. Then we took some notes on Covalent Formulas and Naming with practice on pg. 74 # 8 & 9.
Sci 9: Tues Feb 11 - Bohring Patterns and the Periodic Table
Today we finished off our Bohr Diagrams examples from last day, and you got to complete the "Bohring" periodic table. After that, we looked at all the patterns we could find in that chart, and then you read pgs. 193-195 on the development of the Periodic Table. We ended with this video recap of Mendeleev's life.

Chem 11: Thurs Feb 6 - Classification and States of Matter
Today we hauled through our last new topics of the unit. We took some notes on the Classification of Matter, you had some time for practice on pgs. 52 #33-37,39,41,44. After break we took our last notes of the unit on Phases of Matter and Types of Change and you had a very short time to practice on pg. 61 #59-63. You also received the Unit 1: Matter and Measurement Review Assignment (due Monday).

Sci 9: Wed Feb 5 - Atom Simulations!
Today Mr. B. was away sick. You had a look at how particles of matter behave in different states like solid liquid and gas, and then you got to do the Build an Atom activity After break you worked through this power point on the structure of Atoms with these fill in the blank notes, and then you worked on this Protons, Neutrons, and Electrons Assignment. Sci 9: Tues Feb 4 - Finish Pendulum Lab, and intro to Unit 1: Chemistry!
Today you finished gathering the data for your pendulum lab; then you worked on the Analysis & Follow Up questions + YOUR CONCLUSION. After some time to work on that, we introduced our Unit 1 on Chemistry with some Key questions and Intro notes on Matter.

Sci 9: Mon Feb 3 - What changes a Pendulum's speed
Today we did some brainstorming about what might change the speed of a pendulum. Then you designed your own lab report. We will finish collecting your data tomorrow!
Chem 11: Mon Feb 3 - Sig Figs practice and Assignment
Today we wrapped up our initial look at sig figs by doing some practice calculations on pg. 40 # 57-59. Then you had time to work on the Sig Figs Assignment. We didn't get to the lab, but we'll do that tomorrow; here's a sample Lab Report we'll use to get you primed for creating your own lab reports.
