Sci 9: Thurs Mar 13 - Insulators, Conductors, Shocks, and Lab
Today we discussed some Definitions (Insulator, Conductor, Semi-conductor, and Ground). Then we looked at how the Van De Graff generator works to build up charge (ZAP!). After break, you worked on Lab 9A on pg. 292 - 293 (due after Spring Break).
Chem 11: Wed Mar 12 - Lab 4B
Today you made copper atoms out of copper ions! You performed Lab 4B (Moles of Iron and Copper). After break we wrapped up the lab and went to an assembly.

Today we did a quick recap of Unit 3. Then you had time to work on the Unit 3 Review Assignment (due Wed!).
Sci 9: Mon Mar 10 - Unit 2: Electricity Intro
Today we started off Unit 2: Electricity. We discussed the main parts of the unit (electric charges and electric circuits), and then we took some notes on Electric Charge (we only completed up to and including the table - we'll finish the last bit tomorrow). We also looked at a couple illustrations of static electricity: John Travoltage! and Balloons!

Chem 11: Thurs Feb 27 - Mole Conversions!
Today we did it! We learned how to convert with moles. We started with some practice from last day: Pg. 80 # 6 & 7. Then we took some notes on converting moles and mass, with practice on pg. 82 #8-10. Sci 9: Tues Feb 18 - Chemical Symbols and Formulas
Today we worked on how to work with Chemical symbols and formulas. You read pgs. 234-236, we took some notes about how to read the numbers in chemical formulas, and then you had this worksheet to try as practice. Towards the end of class, we had a look at this video on the Deadliest Chemicals in the world!

Today we learned how to Name "Hydrates;" we took some notes, looked at some examples of how water and ionic crystals interact and then you did practice on pg. 73 #6 & 7.

Sci 9: Thurs Feb 13 - Chemical Families and Periodic Crafts!
Today we had a look at the way the periodic table is organized to show different groups of elements. You read pgs. 248 - 252, we took some Notes on Chemical Families, and then there was some practice on pg. 254 #1,2,5,7. After break, you wrote QQQ #3, we did some J.o.W, and then we had a look at different ways to represent the periodic table. Then you got to Colour a Periodic Table and create a 3D periodic table for your own!

Today we started Unit 2: Inorganic Compound Naming with some notes on Bonding. Then we took some notes on Covalent Formulas and Naming with practice on pg. 74 # 8 & 9.
Sci 9: Tues Feb 11 - Bohring Patterns and the Periodic Table
Today we finished off our Bohr Diagrams examples from last day, and you got to complete the "Bohring" periodic table. After that, we looked at all the patterns we could find in that chart, and then you read pgs. 193-195 on the development of the Periodic Table. We ended with this video recap of Mendeleev's life.

Today Mr. B. was away sick. You had a look at how particles of matter behave in different states like solid liquid and gas, and then you got to do the Build an Atom activity After break you worked through this power point on the structure of Atoms with these fill in the blank notes, and then you worked on this Protons, Neutrons, and Electrons Assignment. Today we did some brainstorming about what might change the speed of a pendulum. Then you designed your own lab report. We will finish collecting your data tomorrow!
Chem 11: Mon Feb 3 - Sig Figs practice and Assignment
Today we wrapped up our initial look at sig figs by doing some practice calculations on pg. 40 # 57-59. Then you had time to work on the Sig Figs Assignment. We didn't get to the lab, but we'll do that tomorrow; here's a sample Lab Report we'll use to get you primed for creating your own lab reports.

Chem 11: Fri Jan 31 - Uncertainty and Sig Figs in Calculations
Today we had a look at how to include uncertainties in our measurements (pgs. 34-36 and Q's 51 & 52 as practice). After that, we took some notes about how to calculate with sig figs (pgs 38-40 and Q's 56-59 as practice. We ran out of time for the Sig Figs assignment, but we'll have some time on Monday to do that.

Today we had a look at how to handle Sig Figs in measured numbers and how to get the correct number of sig figs from a measuring device (similar info can be found on pgs. 27 - 33). After the notes, you had time to practice q #'s 42,46-50, and 55.

Today we wrapped up our notes from last day on the 3 different types of scientific investigations. Then we had a look at your learning styles and favourite courses to see if we could find any correlations (and we did)! After that, we had a look at what goes in a lab report.

Today we spent a little bit of time discussing the limitations of science. You all got your own Data Booklet, and then we did some notes about how to handle unit conversions in Chem 11. You had some time at the end to practice Q#11-14 (pg. 19) and 16-19 (pg. 21) - do what you need to master them!
