Sci 8: Fri Nov 29 - Eye questions and Conclusion Time

 After your QQQ today, we worked on questions #1-9 on pg. 215. Then we had a look at some examples of optical intruments. After that you had time to work on the conclusion from your lab (due on Monday).

  Today we worked on getting your account set up on MyEd BC. After that we had a look at how computers use the Binary number system. Here's a visual puzzle of how binary numbers work, and here's the video we looked at to see how computers use them.

Sci 8: Thurs Nov 28 - Lenses Experiment & Human Vision

 Today we started with our Lenses Experiment. Then we finished off the new ideas of the unit by looking at how Human Vision works: Here's the diagram to label, and here are the notes we took on the back side.

Sci 8: Tues Nov 26 - Refraction and Lenses

 Today we finished off our work from last day: we took some more notes on refraction and worked through these Refraction Scenarios. We had one more look at the infrared camera and discussed why objects give off this kind of light at normal temperatures. After that, you read pgs. 190-193 about lenses and we took notes on the 2 main types of lenses.

 Today we played Catan while the computers were being used for Career Day. Good games everyone!

Sci 8: Mon Nov 25 - Curved Mirrors and Refraction Intro

 Today we finished off our work with curved mirrors. We had a look at how they can focus an image and individual rays, and then we worked through questions #2-6 on pg. 189. After that we started talking about Refraction; you read pgs. 174-175 and we started some notes, which we'll finish tomorrow. We ended with a look at an infrared camera.

HS 101 Blks E & F: Fri Nov 22 - Sharing Documents and using the RSS Website

 Today we had our first QQQ. After that I showed you how to share your documents (using your OneDrive!), and then you had time to work on your projects (including the RSS Website project).

Sci 8: Fri Nov 22 - Finish Law of Reflection and start Curved Mirrors

 After the QQQ today we finished off our Law of Reflection practice, and you did the Law of Reflection Assignment. After that, we started working on Curved Mirrors - you read pgs. 185-186 and then we completed these Notes on this Notes Sheet.

  Today we learned the rules of Catan in preparation for our game next week. Then you had some time to practice some Word skills!

Sci 8: Wed Nov 20 - Plane Mirrors and the Law of Reflection

 Today we talked a lot about reflection! We started by looking at how "plane" mirrors work; you read pgs. 182-184, then we filled out these notes, and you did some practice. After break we did a bit of J.o.W, and then worked through a bit of the Law of Reflection; we did some practice/notes together... we'll finish it Friday!

Sci 8: Tues Nov 19 - EM Spectrum and Opacity

 Today we finished off discussing the ElectroMagnetic Spectrum. We watched this video to get some more visuals, then worked on #1-4,9,11,12 on pg. 163. We also wrote some notes about how to make EM waves, and what makes an object Transparent, Translucent, or Opaque. To end off you practiced with this handout.

 Today we had some time to address the question of, What is a Computer? We had a look at this video to give us some answers; then you had time to work on the project.

Sci 8: Mon Nov 18 - EM Spectrum

 Today we spend a few minutes correcting your answers to the textbook questions from last day. Then you used this notes organizer to record your notes from the reading on pgs. 152 - 160 and from this video.

Sci 8: Fri Nov 15 - Visible Light

 Today we had a look at how Visible Light works. After our QQ, you read pg. 144-148, then we took down these notes on a notes sheet. After that you had some time to work on pg. 151 #2-5,7-9,12a. Please finish them for homework!

Sci 8: Wed Nov 13 - Light Rays and Tinker time!

 Today we spent some time looking at Waves! After that you had some time to finish the questions on pg. 143 (#1-9). Then we worked on How Light Travels in light rays, and you got to Make Shadows. To end the class, you got to "tinker" with the ray boxes and try to make interesting patterns with light rays, lenses, and mirrors.

Sci 8: Tues Nov 12 - Unit 4: Optics Intro

 Today we had a quick chat about how to keep improving our Lab Conclusions and then about how well our last test went. After that we started of our new unit by reading pgs. 132 - 138 of the textbook. Then we worked through some Notes on Waves. After that you had a few minutes to start questions # 1 - 9 on pg. 143.

 Today we had our first class! We talked about what this course is about and how to access your Digital Notebook using OneNote.

 Today we watched some Bill Nye about Phase Changes. After that we talked about lab report format, and went over the Unit 3: Matter Review Assignment.

Mon Nov 4: Sci 8 - Matter Review time

 Today we had some time to get organized with the end of our Unit 3: Matter (test is on Thursday!). You had a bunch of time to work on the Unit 3: Matter Review Assignment.

Sci 8: Fri Nov 1 - Unit 3 overview and Can Crush

 Today you wrote QQQ #6. Then we did an overview of our Unit 3: Matter. We also put some of what we learned to the test by using air to crush some cans. To end off, we heard what Bill Nye had to say about Atoms :)
