 Today you wrote QQQ #3, and then we had a chance to go over the test from last day. After that we corrected the pg. 63 questions, and took these notes on some Disease definitions. For homework, please search online for a "How to play Pandemic" video :)

  Today we started in with Microsoft Word! You got to test out some of the useful features of Word, and then you worked on the Word Skills Project, including your summary of the rules of Catan.

Sci 8: Wed Sept 25 - Unit 1 Cells test & Intro Unit 2

 In the first block today, you wrote the Unit 1 Cells test! After break, we had some J.o.W, a Fire Drill, and then we started Unit 2: Disease & Immunity with some intro notes, plus questions #3-6, 8-10 on pg. 63. Please have these done for Friday!

 Today we did a quick correct of your answers to the Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration questions; then we had a look at all the topics we've covered in Unit 1: Cells and some ideas of how to study for the test. After that, you had time to work on the Unit 1 Review Assignment.

The we had a look at this powerpoint on Cellular Respiration and Photosynthesis - here are the notes that you took with it. Sci 8: Wed Sept 18 - Your Cells & Cell Organelles!

 Today we covered a LOT. We started with this video, introducing us to the different organelles of the cell. Then we praticed making our own slides of hair under the microscope. After a discussion on safety, we started our Cheek Smear Lab, where you got to view your own cells under the microscope! After break we had our first Jar of Wonder time, and then finished off by working through this chart about organelles using pgs. 24 - 30 to help us fill it in.

Sci 8: Tues Sept 17 - Prokaryotic vs Eukaryotic + Finish Microscope Measuring

 Today we compared Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells, and then you had time to finish off the Using the Microscope (with measurements) - please hand it in next class.

Sci 8: Mon Sept 16 - Cell Theory and Microscope Measuring

 Today we started our second set of Quick Questions (Quiz on Friday!); then we worked through these notes on Cell Theory. After that we had some time to work with the Microscopes again, this time, trying to figure out how we can tell how large something is when viewed under the microscope - please have up to part 2 done of Using the Microscope.

 After QQ and typing today, we had a look at your project list so that you can keep organized with your projects. After that we had a look at this video to help us wrap our heads around Binary Numbers! In the remaining time, you had some project work time!

 Today you wrote your first Quick Questions Quiz! After that we had a look at how our microscopes work; you read pgs. 11 - 14 of the text book and then completed this chart and diagram to familiarize yourself with how microscopes work. After that, we had time to look at a variety of specimens under the microscope.

Sci 8: Thurs Sept 12 - Scientific Method Lab & Unit 1 Intro

 Today we had our first Lab Experiment where we practiced the Scientific Method! After we discussed how to control the variables and do the experiment thoughtfully, you got to do the experiment! After break, we started Unit 1: Cells by looking at our key questions for the unit, watching some animations of cell machinery, and then looking at the 5 Characteristics of Living Things.

 Today we did a Safety T/F activity, practiced for a Fire Alarm, and then you had time to go around and look at all of the different Science Equipment that we might use. We ended with a bang by blowing up some Hydrogen!
